His paternal grandparents were Pepin II Mayor of the Palace of Austrasia and Alpaide Austrasia; his maternal grandparents were Leutwinus`Bishop of Treves and Willigarde of Bavaria. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Bernard of, Carloman of, Pepin III "the Short" King of the, Bernard De, Hieronymous, St. Remi Giles of, Childtrude (Hiltrude) Duchess of, Gisela De, Aude (Aldane) and Martel.
