Rhys Ap was born about 1110 in Dynevor Castle,Llandilo,Carmarthenshire,Wales. Rhys Ap's father was Gruffudd ap Rhys Prince of Deheubarth and his mother was Gwenllian Verch Gruffydd. His paternal grandparents were Rhys ap Tewdwr King of Deheubarth and Gwladus verch Rhiwallon; his maternal grandparents were Gruffydd ap Cynan and Angharad Verch Owain. He had a brother and three sisters, named Rhys "Fychan" Ap, Gwladys Verch, Nest Verch and Gwenllian Verch. He was the third oldest of the five children. "Born in Ireland and known in Welsh history as `Yr Arglwydd Rhys,' The Lord
Rhys. Married Gwenillian, daughter of Meda ap Meredith, Prince of Powys. Rhys
won recognition of his crown from King Henry II in 1158 and built Dynevor
Castle. He had a daughter Gwenillian and sons Hywel, Griffith, Rhys, Cynwrig
and Meredith. Rhys is buried at St. David's Cathedral. The Morgan family
connection with the Royal Family of Britain derives from Lord Rhys."
