He was the second oldest of the five children. He had seven half-brothers and six half-sisters, named "Ironside", Aethelstan, Ironside, Edred, Ecgbert, Edwy, Edgar, Elfgifu, Aelgifu Elgiva, Edith, Wulfhilda, Elgifu and ?.
