His paternal grandparents were Manuel Comnenus and Anna; his maternal grandparents were Alexius Prefect of Italy PHARO and Dalassana DELASSENOS. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Isaac Comnenus Sebastrocrator, Alexius I, Alexius I Comnenus Emperor, Adrionos Comnenus, Nikephoros Comnenus, Maria Comnena, Eudocia Comnena and Theodora Comnena.
