William Gappa was born on July 26th, 1841 in Dale Co., AL.1 William Gappa's father was Gappa Talmadge Yelverton and his mother was Martha Brown Simmons. His maternal grandparents were William Burrell Simmons and Dority Henderson. He had three brothers and six sisters, named George Goldthwate, Henry Bryant, John Gappa, Frances Virginia, Narcissa Eugena, Mary Alabama, Martha Blanch, Christiana Eldies and Laura Elenor.
