Abby was born on January 1st, 1796 in Madison Co., AL.¹ Abby's father was Joel Ledbetter and her mother was Catherine Brazelton. Her paternal grandparents were Henry Ledbetter and Edy Clark. She had six brothers and three sisters, named John, Joel, Jr., Ephraim, Samuel B., Daniel A., Henry Buford, Lydia, Edy and Mary Polly. She was the second youngest of the ten children.
