Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church was constituted May 25, 1878 under
the shade of a large oak tree in front of the present church building.
The church was built about three miles west of Rockford on the old
Clanton highway. The first building was erected with logs and later
extended with lumber.
On June 2, 1883, a building committee was appointed to enlarge the
church. It consisted of Brethen William G Lee, G. A. Dorman and A E
Jacks. ON December 9, 1899, the church appointed a building committee to
raise funds to erect a new church house. Brethren J. H. Embry, B.R.
White, Jr. J. S. Salter, A. J. Terrrell, B. M. Jowers and J. H. Atkins
were appointed. This is the present building and the first meeting was
held in 1900. At that time the building had only wooden windows, no
ceiling overhead or on walls. There was a wood burning heater with the p
ipe running out through the side of the house.
Charter members were A. J. Salter, his daughter Belle Salter Woodfin,
William G. Lee, Martha Thomas, Reb Woodruff, G. E. Poind, Martha Lee and
Mary Rich. The Presbytery was composed of Elders R. W. Carlisle, L. C.
Peters, and J. A. Blackman.
The church left the Hillabee Association in October, 1919, and joined
the Lower Wetumpka Association. Three day associational meetins continue
to be held annually at various churches.
