Lessie Ellice Grimes 
Lessie Ellice was born on November 18th, 1898 in Weogufka, Coosa Co., AL.1 Lessie Ellice's father was Charles Henry Grimes and her mother was Nancy Annie Miller. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Martin Grimes and Mahala S. Goss; her maternal grandparents were Henry Walter Miller and Mary Fannie Vansandt. She had three brothers and a sister, named Henry Walter, Thomas Martin, Sr., Wilmer Goss and Lottie Maye. She was the second oldest of the five children. She died at the age of 19 on July 18th, 1918 in Grimes Farm, Weogufka, Coosa Co., AL. She was buried in Weogufka First Baptist Church Cemetery, Coosa Co., AL. Lessie went to boarding school in Sylacauga, AL where the J. Craig Smith
Community Center now stands. She locked herself in her room and went to
the fireplace or heater. Her skirt caught on fire and burned her badly.
She jumped in the bed and started to roll and made the burns worse. No
one could get to her for a while. Her parents brought her back to the
Grimes farm where she lived about 6 months. Some of the letters I have
found talk about all the things they did to keep her as comfortable as
possible. She never married. I am trying to find out more about her.
Especially since I found her braided hair in the wardrobe at the Grimes
