John Cary Bridges 
John Cary was born on January 6th, 1882 in Coosa Co., AL.1 John Cary's father was Alvin Lafayette Bridges and his mother was Mary Virginia Wilson. His paternal grandparents were William Bridges and Delila Jane Jacks; his maternal grandparents were James Wilson and Martha R. Davis. He had four brothers and two sisters, named James Eppes, Evie Davis, Sr., Leonard Anderson, Thomas Lafayette, Leila D. and Allie Relender. He was the second oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 67 on June 9th, 1949 in Coosa Co., AL. He was buried in Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church, Coosa Co., AL..1 1 General Notes

On Easter Day of April 8, 1996, at the Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist
Church, Gertrude Burk Woodfin (born 5 Jan 1906) informed me that John
Cary Bridges made a promise to a woman, who was on her deathbed, not to
marry. Her name was Mae D. Woodfin. He kept the promise. On May 21,
1997, Kirney Bridges told me that he had heard that story also. Kirney
also told me that John and he worked in a mill in Sylacauga, AL.

"Miss Mae Woodfin, age 24 years, died at the home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. W. M. Woodfin, near Salter, on 19th of this month, and was interred
in the cemetery of Liberty Hill the following day. The funeral services
were conducted by Eld. M. L. White."(3)
Mae Woodfin was born on 12 Dec 1884 and died on 19 May 1910. She is
buried in the same cemetery as John Cary Bridges; Liberty Hill Primitive
Baptist Church Cemetery in Coosa Co., AL.

"BRIDGES, John Cary, 67, died yesterday. He is survived by three
brothers, E. D., Maplesville; L. A., Elmore; T. L. Bridges, Deatsville;
two sisters, Miss Lela Bridges, Mrs. Allie R. Cowart, both of
Birmingham. Funeral services will be held today at Liberty Hill Church
in Coosa County, with the Rev. Tucker officiating. Burial will be in
church cemetery with Evans Funeral Home in charge. Montgomery
