Eleanor was born in 1236 in of Derbyshire, England.  Eleanor's father was William de Ferrers III Earl of Derby and her mother was Sibilla Marshal.  Her paternal grandparents were William de Ferrers II Earl of Derby and Agnes le Meschines of Chester; her maternal grandparents were Sir William Marshal Earl of Pembroke and Isabel de Clare Cts de Strigoil. She had a brother and seven sisters, named Sir John, Agnes, Isabel, Sybil, Joane, Agatha, Maud and Vyvien. She had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Robert de Ferrers, Sir William, Agnes, Elizabeth, Joan and Berta.  She died at the age of 38 on October 26th, 1274.
