Hugh was born about 1271 in Winterbourne Stoke, Amesbury, Wiltshire, England. Hugh's father was Baldwin Wake , Lord of Bourne & Liddel, Sir and his mother was Hawise de Quincy , Heiress of Bidford. His paternal grandparents were Hugh Wake , Lord of Bourne, Sir and Joan de Stuteville , Heiress of Liddell; his maternal grandparents were Robert de Quincy and Helen Ellen verch Llewelyn. He had a brother named John 1st Baron. He was the younger of the two children. He had a half-sister named Ida. He died before May 18th, 1312 in Compton Down, Amesbury, Wiltshire, England.General Notes

14. HUGH WAKE, Knt., of Winterbourne Stoke and Compton, co. Wilts, Knight of the Shire for Wiltshire, younger son. He married JOAN DE BELAUNEY, daughter of Baldwin de Belauney. Her maritagium included lands in Boulsbury (in South Damerham), co. Hants and 1/5 virgate in Fisherton de la Mare, co. Wilts. They had one son, Hugh, Knt., and one daughter, Mirabel (or Muriel). SIR HUGH WAKE died shortly before 18 May 1312. His widow married (2nd) before 24 May 1325 Nicholas de Braybrook (living 1328). She died shortly before 20 June 1329.
