John Stewart , Lord of Bonkyl, Sir 
John was born about 1245 in Dundonald Castle, Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland. John's father was Alexander Stewart , 4th High Steward of Scotland and his mother was Jean Heiress of Arran & Bute. His paternal grandparents were Walter Stewart , 3rd High Steward of Scotland and Beatrix de Angus; his maternal grandparents were James Earl of Bute and Ragnhild of the Isles. He had a brother and four sisters, named James, Mary, Elizabeth, Hawise and Alice. He was the second oldest of the six children. He died on July 22nd, 1298 in Battle of Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland.General Notes
John (Sir), of Bonkyl; led his Islemen from Bute and his wife's Border archers in the fight for Scottish independence; married Margaret, daughter and heiress of Sir Alexander Bonkyl of that Ilk, and was killed fighting for Sir William Wallace at the Battle of Falkirk, 1298. [Burke's Peerage]
