Robert de was born about 1219 in Middleton, Freebridge Lynn, Norfolk, England. Robert de's father was Robert de Scales , of Middleton, Sir Knight and his mother was Alice de Roucestre. His paternal grandparents were Roger de Scales , of Worlington and Margery de Reaufou , Heir of Hockwold; his maternal grandfather was William de Roucestre , of Rivenhall. He was an only child. He died in Middleton, Freebridge Lynn, Norfolk, England.General Notes
ROBERT DE SCALES III, son and heir. In 1252 he was a party in an assize of novel disseisin in connection with Middleton; in 1259 he demised his manor of Hoo to another; and in the same year the Justices of the Jews were directed to cause his lands in Norfolk and Suffolk to be extended and his debts to the Jews to be ascertained.
He married Clemence who survived him (n). He died before 20 January 1267. His widow married, 2ndly, Roger de Vaux. [Complete Peerage XI:499, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
(n) In Oct 1267, she fined to have the wardship of his land and heir, and licence to marry whom she would.
