Joan de was born about 1256 in Helmsley Castle, North Ride Yorkshire, England.  Joan de's father was Robert IV "1st Baron" de Ros , of Belvoir, MP and her mother was Isabel de Albini , Heiress of Belvoir.  Her paternal grandparents were William I de Ros , MP, Lord of Helmsley, Sir and Lucy FitzPiers; her maternal grandparents were William II de Albini , Lord of Belvoir and Isabel. She had a brother and two sisters, named William III 1st Baron de, Mary de and Isabel de.  She was the second youngest of the four children.  She died on October 13th, 1348 in Blundeston, Mitford, Suffolk, England.

‌Joan de and John 1st Baron were married in a religious ceremony after 1280 in 2nd wife.  They had a son named John 2nd Baron.
