Hugh II was born in 0990. Hugh II's father was Count Enguerrand I OF PONTHIEU & MONTREUIL and his mother was Aleida DE GAND OF HOLLAND. His paternal grandparents were Lord Hughes I Of Abbeville PONTHIEU and Princess Gisele Capet OF FRANCE; his maternal grandparents were Count/Count Arnolph I Of Ghent OF HOLLAND and Luitgarde DE LUXEMBURG. He had a brother named Hughues II. He was the older of the two children.General Notes
Credited with the first unification of the country, convertedthe Danes to Christianity, and conquered Norway. After hisBaptism his fathers pagan tomb was transformed into a Christianplace of worship.
Introduced Christianity into Denmark, he had the famous Jellingrune stone erected in his parent memory. He was fatally woundedduring a rebellion by his son and successor, Sveng I.
