Gratney 7th Earl de was born about 1272 in Kildrummy Castle, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Gratney 7th Earl de's father was Donald 6th Earl de Mar , Sir Knight and his mother was Helen verch Llewelyn. His paternal grandparents were William 5th Earl de Mar , Sir and Elizabeth Comyn; his maternal grandparents were Llewelyn ap Iorwerth , Prince of Wales and Unknown Mistress. He had three sisters named Margaret (Marjory or Mary) de, Margaret of and Isabel (Matilda) de. He was the second oldest of the four children. He died before September 1305.General Notes
Gartney/Gratney, 7th Earl of Mar, Jt Sheriff Aberdeenshire 1297; married Christian Bruce, sister of Robert I who granted her the lands of Garioch for her life, but whereby the Earls of Mar acquired the feudal Lordship of Garioch (not a peerage dignity) and were even latterly styled "Earls of Garioch".
