Gruffydd Ap was born about 1000 in Rhuddlan, Flintshire, Wales.  Gruffydd Ap's father was Llewellyn Ap Seisyll and his mother was Angharad Verch Maredydd.  His paternal grandparents were Seisyll Ap Ednyvain and Prawst Verch Elise; his maternal grandfather was Prince of Deheubarth Maredydd Ap Owain Prince of Deheubarth. He had four half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Caradoc Ap, Rhiwallon Ap, Bleddyn Ap, Rhiwallon ap, Iwerydd Verch and Iwerydd Verch.  He died on August 5th, 1063.

‌Gruffydd Ap and Ealdgyth (Edith) 'Swan Neck' of were married in a religious ceremony about 1058.  They had a son and a daughter, named Llewellyn Ap and Nest Verch.

They had a daughter named Nesta (Mary) Verch.
