Gilbert "Strongbow" De was born on September 21st, 1100 in Tunbridge, Kent, England.  Gilbert "Strongbow" De's father was Gilbert Fitz Richard De Clare [Earl Hertford] and his mother was Adeliza De Clermont.  His paternal grandparents were [Lord De Bienfai Richard Fitzgilbert 1St Earl De Clare [Lord De Bienfai and Rohese Giffard; his maternal grandparents were Hugh I De Creil Clermont [Count Cleremont] and Margaret De Montdidier [Countess Of Cle. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Walter De, Baldwin Fitzgilbert De, Richard Fitz Gilbert De, Hervey De, Adeliza (Alice) De, Hawise De, Margaret De, Agnes De and Rohesia De. He had a half-brother named John "The Marshall".  He died in England.  He was buried in Tintern Abbey, Chapel Hill, Monmouthshire, Eng.
