His paternal grandparents were Cynwrig ap Iorwerth and Angharad verch Hwfa; his maternal grandparents were Rhys "Fychan" ap Gruffudd , Prince of Wales and Gwenllian verch Madog. He had a sister named Gwenllian verch. He was the younger of the two children. He had two half-brothers named Cynwrig ap and Tudor ap. He died in 1268.-
