Aveline was born in 1170 in Hereford, Herefordshire, England. Aveline's father was Earl Roger "The Good" Of Hertford & Clare DE CLARE and her mother was Maude DE SAINT HILARY DE HARCOURT. Her maternal grandfather was James DE SAINT HILARY. She had a brother and two sisters, named Richard Of Hereford, Mabel and Elana. She was the youngest of the four children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named William III Of Arundel and Cicely. She died before 1225.General Notes
About 1020 Richard II, Duke of Normandy, places Ralph and hisson Roger, along with others, in charge of the castle ofTillieres to hold it against Odo of Chartres, the Duke'sbrother-in-law, who had revolted. Odo attacked the castle butwas routed and barely escaped with his life.
