Egeline de was born about 1282 in Okehampton, Devonshire, England. Egeline de's father was Hugh de Courtenay , Baron of Okehampton and her mother was Eleanor le Despenser. Her paternal grandparents were John de Courtenay , Baron of Okehampton and Isabel de Vere; her maternal grandparents were Hugh 1st Baron le Despenser , Sir Knight and Unknown First Wife. She had a brother and four sisters, named Hugh de, Eleanor de, Isabel de, Aveline de and Margaret de. She was the third oldest of the six children. She died before October 10th, 1335 in Worlington, Mildenhall, Suffolk, England.General Notes

[i] G.E.C., again apparently following Chester Waters (Chesters of Chicheley, vol. i, pp. 253-55) says that Egeline was sister of Hugh, Earl of Devon, and daughter of Sir Hugh Courtenay, of Okehampton, Devon, by Eleanor, daughter of Hugh (le Despenser), Lord le Despenser, citing the Scales Peerage Case; but the evidence there given (p. 101) consisted only of a citation from the Fine Roll of 18 Edward II (Cal. Fine Rolls, vol. iii, pp. 346, 350), which does not give the surname. Anselme, vol. vii, p. 839A, makes the same statement as Chester Waters. Cussans (Hist. Herts., Edwinstree Hund., P. 28) refers to Hari. MS. 97 1, f i o2, which gives no parentage. Dugdale (Baronage, vol. i, p. 617) relies on the collections of Glover, Somerset Herald.
