John III "The Red" was born about 1269 in Inverlochy Castle, Fort William, Inverness, Scotland.  John III "The Red"'s father was John II "The Black" Comyn , Lord of Badenoch and his mother was Eleanor (Alianora) de Baliol.  His paternal grandparents were John I "The Red" Comyn , Lord of Badenoch and Amabilia; his maternal grandparents were John I de Baliol , Regent of Scotland and Devorgilla of Galloway. He had two sisters named Miss and Dornagilda.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died in Murdered in church by Robert the Bruce (King Robert I).  He was buried in Church of the Grey Friars, Dumfries, Scotland.


John III "The Red"'s family with Joan de Valence

‌John III "The Red" and Joan de were married in a religious ceremony before 1291 in Badenoch, Inverness, Scotland.  They had a son and two daughters, named John IV, Joan and Elizabeth.
