Eleanor (Alianora) de was born in 1246 in Barnard Castle, Gainford, Durham, England.  Eleanor (Alianora) de's father was John I de Baliol , Regent of Scotland and her mother was Devorgilla of Galloway.  Her paternal grandparents were Hugh de Baliol , Lord Gainford and Cicely de Fontaines; her maternal grandparents were Alan of Galloway , Constable of Scotland and Margaret de Huntingdon. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Alexander, John II de, William de, Cecily de, Ada de and Euphemia.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.

‌Eleanor (Alianora) de and John II "The Black" were married in a religious ceremony.  They had a son and two daughters, named John III "The Red", Miss and Dornagilda.
