Katherine was born about 1543 in Hunsdon, Ware, Hertfordshire, England. Katherine's father was Henry 1st Baron Cary , of Hunsdon, KG, Sir and her mother was Anne Morgan. Her paternal grandparents were Henry VIII Tudor King of England and Mary Boleyn; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Morgan , Sir Knight and Anne (Elizabeth) Whitney. She was an only child. She died in Arundel House, London, Middlesex, England. She was buried in Chelsea, London, England.General Notes

He [Charles Howard] married, 1stly, July 1563, Katharine, 1st daughter of Henry (CAREY), 1st BARON HUNSDON, by Ann, apparently daughter of Sir Thomas MORGAN. She, who was a lady of the Privy Chamber to Queen Elizabeth, died at Arundel House, Strand, Middlesex, 25, and was buried 28 February 1602/3, at Chelsea, her funeral being celebrated 21 Mar 1602/3 (d). (d) Faulkner's "Chelsea" states that she had a grant for life of the manor of Chelsea, 30 July 1591. A book of verse by Thomas Powell, 1603, "Vertues due; or, a true modell of the life of the right Honourable Katharine Howard, late Countess of Nottingham, deceased," was reprinted 1881, by the Roxburghe Club. The romantic story of her retaining the ring given her by the Earl of Essex to present to Queen Elizabeth (to rescue him from execution) is shown in the Dict. Nat. Biog., sub Devereux, to be apocryphal.

Eileen Suggs, who has researched the Carey line & pointed out this lineage to me, sent the following in an e-mail:
Abt 1555 was the original date I had for Mary's birth. Katheryn's marriage was arranged when she was 5 or 6 years old. This was done strictly for monetary reasons. Mary and Anne Boleyn's mother was Elizabeth Howard and the Howards were extremely wealthy and very generous to Henry VIII during the time of Anne's tenure with Henry. Upon her execution the generousity ceased. By marrying Katherine back into the Howard's Henry VIII hoped to restore relationships and forthcoming funds. Unfortunately, he died shortly after the marriage negotations were finalized.
Henry Carey sided with Henry VIII at all times, thus putting a strain on the Howard relationship. It was hoped that the mariage would solve all family problems. Katherine's dowry was greatly augmented by Henry VIII.
