Gilbert "the Red Earl" de was born on September 2nd, 1243 in Christchurch, Hampshire, England.  Gilbert "the Red Earl" de's father was Richard de CLARE EARL OF GLOUCESTER and his mother was Maud de LACY.  His paternal grandparents were Gilbert de CLARE EARL OF GLOUCESTER and Isabel MARSHALL; his maternal grandparents were John de LACY Earl of Lincoln and Margaret De QUINCY Countess of Lincoln. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Thomas de, Bevis (Bogo) (Benet) De, Robert (Richard) De, Isabel De, Margaret De, Maud De, Roese (Rohesia) De and Eglentine De.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 52 on December 7th, 1295 in Monmouth Castle, Monmouthshire, England.  He was buried on December 22nd, 1295 in Abbey, Tewksbury, Gloucestershire, England.
