Balaam ben was born in 1000 BC in Pethor. Balaam ben's father was Patriarchal (Avot) Prophets in Judaism. His paternal grandfather was Period of the Patriarchs in Israel. He had ten brothers and a sister, named Moses ben, Aaron ben, Joseph (Yosef) (Zaphenath-Pa'aneah) ben, Abram (Abraham) (Avraham ) (Ibrahim) ben, Isaac (Celi) (Yitshaq) (Isaak) (Ishaq) ben, Phinehas (Pinchas) ben, Hur (Chur) ben, Job of, Caleb (Carmi) (Chelubai) ben, Joshua (12 spies) (Hoshea) (Jehoshua) ben and Sarah (Sarai) bint. A soothsayer who lived in Pethor, Balaam was hired by King Balak of Moabto pronounce a curs e on the Israelites, then wandering from Egypt to thePromised Land. The angel of the Lord in tervened, causing Balaam'sjackass to speak fo Balaam. Instead of a curse, Balaam gave a bles sing,and was promptly fired by Balak. Later, Balaam persuaded many Israelitesto adopt the im moral ceremonies pertaining to the cults of the heathentribes.
