William Matthews 
William was born about 1735. William's father was Walter Matthews and his mother was Mary Mendenhall. His paternal grandparents were Oliver Matthews and Elizabeth Unknown; his maternal grandparents were John Mendenhall and Susanna Pierson. He had a brother and two sisters, named Oliver, Elizabeth and Mary Ann. He was the second oldest of the four children.-
