John de Balliol , King of Scotland 
John was born about 1250. John's father was John DE BALIOL , Regent of Scotland and his mother was Devorguilla MACDONAL , of Galloway. His maternal grandparents were Alan MACDONAL , Lord of Galloway and Margaret DE HUNTINGDON. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Alexander, Hugh, Alan, Cecily, Alianora and Ada. He had a half-sister named Maud (Matilda). He died in 1313.General Notes

Baliol, John de (1250?-1314), king of Scotland (1292-96), son of John deBaliol, an English nobleman. When Princess Margaret died, he became acompetitor for the crown then claimed by Robert de Bruce VI, grandfatherof King Robert I. Edward I of England was the arbiter in the dispute, andhe chose in favor of Baliol, who in turn pledged his fealty to Edward.Feeling that his sovereignty was only nominal and resenting variousindignities to which he was subjected, Baliol in 1295 concluded analliance with France, which was at war with England. The English theninvaded Scotland, defeated the Scottish troops, took Baliol prisoner, andforced him to surrender his crown on July 10, 1296.
