Maud (Matilda) was born about 1261 in Freiston, Lincolnshire, England.  Maud (Matilda)'s father was John DE VAUX , Sheriff of Norfolk and her mother was Devorguilla MACDONAL , of Galloway.  Her paternal grandparents were Oliver (Sir) DE VAUX and Pernell DE CRAON; her maternal grandparents were Alan MACDONAL , Lord of Galloway and Margaret DE HUNTINGDON. She had four half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Alexander, John, Hugh, Alan, Cecily, Alianora and Ada.  She died in 1301 in Norfolk, England.

‌Maud (Matilda) and William II were married in a religious ceremony before 1287 in Belvoir, Leicestershire, England.  They had a son and three daughters, named William III, Agnes, Margaret and Alice.
