WILLIAM was born about 1784 in SAMPSON CO., NC. WILLIAM's father was REV WILLIAM COOPER and his mother was ELIZABETH SCOTT. His paternal grandparents were JOHN FLEET COOPER SR. and MARGUERITE COORE; his maternal grandparents were NEHEMIAH SCOTT and ELIZABETH ATKINSON. He had nine brothers and three sisters, named JOSEPH, JOSEPH, JONATHAN, JONATHAN, WILLIAM, FLEET, FLEET, BENJAMINE, BENJAMINE, MARTHA, MARTHA and Elizabeth May. He was the seventh oldest of the thirteen children.-
