Gilbert Hawdon 
Gilbert was born on July 29th, 1829 in Off Cape of Good Hope.1 Gilbert's father was John Hawdon and his mother was Margaret Katharine Potts. His paternal grandparents were John Hawdon and Elizabeth Hunt; his maternal grandparents were William Potts and Margaret Werge. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John, William, Ernest, Joseph, Francis, Margaret, Elizabeth and Annie. He was the second oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 34 on August 26th, 1863.1 General Notes

Gilbert and Margaret were married in a religious ceremony on April 9th, 1857.1 They had a son and three daughters, named John, Annie, Daughter2 Coudry and Daughter3 Coudry.
