His paternal grandparents were Earl Sigurd II (The Stout) Hlodversson Of The Orkneys and Princess Donada (Thora Donada) Mcalpin Of Scotland; his maternal grandparents were Count Finn Arnesson Of Holland and Bergljot Halfdansdoittir Of Norway. He had two brothers named Bardolf and Erland II. He was the oldest of the three children. He had three half-brothers named Duncan II, Malcolm and Donald.
