John was born about 1338 in Fingalton Castle,Craigton,Strathclyde,Scotland. John's father was Lord David Hamilton Of Cadzow and his mother was Margaret Ross. His paternal grandparents were Lord Walter Hamilton Of Cadzow and Mary Gordon; his maternal grandparents were Earl Hugh Ross and Maud De Brus. He had two brothers named David and Walter. He was the second oldest of the three children. He died on September 14th, 1402 in Battle of Homildon Hill,Lancashire,England.1 General Notes
Sir John Hamilton (2nd son), of Fingalto(u)n; married 1st Jane, daughter and heir of Sir James Lyddell, of Preston, Haddingtonshire; married 2nd Anna, daughter of Sir William de Seton of Seton; and was perhaps killed at the defeat by English of Homildon Hill (at which he was certainly present); ancestor of [Sir Robert].
