Jean was born in 1330 in Brechin,Angusshire,Scotland. Jean's father was Lord David Barclay Of Brechin and her mother was Margaret De Brechin. Her paternal grandfather was Sir David De Berkeley; her maternal grandparents were Lord David De Brechin and Margaret De Bonkyl. She had two brothers and a sister, named David, Hugh and Christian. She was the oldest of the four children.-
