Maredydd was born about 0914 in Of Dynevor Castl,Llandilo,Carmarthenshire,Wales. Maredydd's father was Hywel Dda and his mother was Elen Verch Llywarch. His paternal grandparents were Cadell Mawr Ap Rhodri and Rheingar; his maternal grandparents were Llywarch Ap Hyfaidd Of Deheubarth and Unknown. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named Owain, Rhodri, Rhain, Dyfnwal, Edwin, Cynan, Einion, Gwenllian and Angharad. He was the second oldest of the ten children.-
