Gozelo I was born about 0967 in Verdun,Meuse,France. Gozelo I's father was Count Godfrey Aachen Of Verdun and his mother was Matilda Billung Of Saxony. His paternal grandparents were Count Gozelin Aachen Of Verdun/Bidgau and Uda De Metz; his maternal grandparents were Duke Herman Billung Of Saxony and Hildegarde De Westerbourge.
