Robustiana was born about 1818 in Melo, Cerro Largo, Uruguay. Robustiana's father was Jose Antonio Sanchez Montes De Oca and her mother was Juana Nepomucena Muñoz Y Palacios. Her paternal grandparents were Juan Jose Sanchez Garcia and Juana Maria Montes De Oca Morales; her maternal grandparents were Alferez Jose Mariano Muñoz and Maria Atanasia Palacios Pereira. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Joaquin, Amalio, Luis, Pedro Maria, Sinforiana, Rudecinda, Cornelia and Felipa. She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.-
