Berenguela was born in 1199.  Berenguela's father was Alfonso IX Rey De Leon and her mother was Berengaria Reina De Leon Y Castilla.  Her paternal grandparents were Fernando II Rey De Leon and Urraca Princesa De Portugal; her maternal grandparents were Alfonso VIII "El Noble" Sanchez Rey De Castilla and Eleanor Plantagenet. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Fernando III "El Santo", Alfonso, Urraca and Leonor. She had three half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Fernando, Pedro Afonso De, Rodrigo Afonso De, María Afonso De, Dulce, Sancha, Urraca Afonso De and Aldonza Afonso De.  She died at the age of 38 on April 12th, 1237.


Berenguela's family with Jean Ier De Brienne

‌Berenguela and Jean Ier were married in a religious ceremony in 1222 in , Tolède, , Esp.  They had two sons named Jean and Louis.
