His paternal grandparents were Henry De Percy and Eleanor , Baroness Percy FitzAlan; his maternal grandparents were Robert Clifford and Maud De Clare. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Richard, Roger, Robert, Thomas, William, Margaret, Isabel, Maud and Eleanor. He was the second oldest of the ten children.
