Daniel J. was born on September 24th, 1836 in Gallia County, Ohio. Daniel J.'s father was Daniel Boster and his mother was Mary Lake. His paternal grandparents were Phillip Boster and Elizabeth Barbara Hinterliter; his maternal grandfather was Daniel Lake. He had two brothers and seven sisters, named Thomas Levi, Jacob, Sally, Mary Elizabeth "Polly", Alameda, Melinda, Catherine, Harriet and Mahala. He was the second youngest of the ten children.-
