Her paternal grandparents were Charles POWELL and Elizabeth Betsy (Powell); her maternal grandparents were Anthony Gholson and Mary Sandridge. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Anthony, Charles, Lewis, Lewsey, Rhoda, Mary Ann "Polly" and Sarah Jane. She was the oldest of the eight children.General Notes
