Richard was born in 1194 in Of, Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales.1 Richard's father was William FITZGILBERT and his mother was Isabel Fitzgilbert de CLARE. His paternal grandparents were John FITZGILBERT and Sibilla (Sibyl) de SALISBURY; his maternal grandparents were Richard Fitzgilbert de CLARE and Aoife Eva MacDermot MCMURROUGH. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Gilbert, Walter, William II, Anselm, Margaret, Maud (Matilda), Isabel, Joane, Sibyl and Eve (Eva). He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 40 on April 16th, 1234 in Kilkenny, Castle, Kildare, Ireland. He was buried on April 17th, 1234 in ,Kilkenny, Kildare, Ireland.1 1 General Notes
