Elizabeth Betsey was born in 1731 in Culpeper Co., VA-----------see notes, poss. father was Larkin Chew.1 Elizabeth Betsey's father was Thomas Chew and her mother was Martha Thompson Taylor. Her paternal grandparents were Larkin Chew and Hannah Smith Roy; her maternal grandparents were James Taylor and Martha Thompson. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, Larkin, Thomas, Samuel, James, Colby Taylor, Frances, Hannah, Alice and Mildred Molly. She died about 1798.1 General Notes

ALIA /Betsy/Some controversy about "Chew" as maiden surname. Rose Barnstable, 2028 Old Freder ick Road,
Catonsville, MD., 21228, phone # 301-747-6609 thinks she has virtually disproved it. I
personally disagree. There is an Elizabeth Chew who m. Samuel Stiles 4-2-1782, after the Eli zabeth
who married Jonas was dead, hence, I believe, the confusion. She was a generation younger tha n
Jonas's wife, Elizabeth Chew. The Chew family records show this Elizabeth as being marrie d to Jonas.

Larkin is a name that came down the Chew family. Valerie Menefee, P.O.Box 664, Brentwood, Ten n. 37024
has found: Larkin Chew, Larkin Menefee, Larkin Reynolds, and Larkin Smith. There has to be a
connection. Elizabeth could have been the daughter of LARKIN CHEW who had a daughter Elizabe th who
was born in the same time period.
