James Simms 
James was born in 1713 in Charles County, Maryland.1 James' father was James Semmes and his mother was Mary Goodrick. His paternal grandparents were Marmaduke Semmes and Fortune Watson; his maternal grandfather was Robert Goodrick. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Joseph Milburn, Marmaduke, Ignatius, Susannah, Mary, Anne, Julianna and Susannah. He was the second youngest of the nine children.
