Martha was born on July 16th, 1797 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 Martha's father was William McCarty and her mother was Rachel Kyle. Her paternal grandparents were James McCarty and Sarah Fugate; her maternal grandparents were Robert Kyle and Leah Brooks. She had seven brothers and five sisters, named Robert Kyle, James P., William L., Andrew R., Absalom P., John C., Thomas Jefferson, Elizabeth, Mary, Leah, Sarah and Rachel B.. She was the fifth oldest of the thirteen children.-
