Joseph Torbett was born in 1837 in Tennessee.1 Joseph Torbett's father was Michael Massengill and his mother was Hannah Torbett. His paternal grandparents were Henry Massengill and Penelope Cobb. He had two brothers and four sisters, named William Allen, William, Sarah, Lucretia S., Lucinda Evaline and Susan S.. He had a half-brother and five half-sisters, named Richard Henry, Penelope Louise, Massengill, Rebecca Cobb, Massengill and Barsheba Stuart.-
