Her paternal grandparents were Robert Jones and Mary Gardiner. She had five brothers and eight sisters, named William, Landon C., Alexander, James Marion, Jesse, Mahaley, Jane, Martha Jane, Patience, Jerusha, Sarah, Elizabeth and Rosannah Or Rosa. She was the seventh youngest of the fourteen children.
