James

James was born in 1840 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.¹ James' father was James Patterson and his mother was Lucretia Scism. His paternal grandparents were William Patterson and Mary Pruitt; his maternal grandparents were William Scism and Elizabeth Duncan. He had three brothers and a sister, named John, William, Jesse and Margaret Elizabeth. He was the second youngest of the five children.
