Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Hobgood and Elizabeth; her maternal grandfather was Samuel Morgan. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Lemuel, Elijah, Micajah, Samuel Morgan, John, William, Phereba, Elizabeth, Ruthemah and Penelpha (Penelope). She was the sixth oldest of the eleven children.-
