Elizabeth's father was Amos Cotton and her mother was Zilpha Wimberly. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Cotton and Patience Bridgers; her maternal grandfather was George Wimberly. She had four brothers and two sisters, named George, James, Joseph, Wimberly, Pheriby and Sarah.-
